Data transfers, recovery
and computer setup.

Move your files, photos and everyday work to your next Mac or Windows computer. If the old device has failed, we’ll first look at how the files can be accessed.

01 / TRANSFER

My files are accessible. I’m moving computers.

A normal transfer moves data from one readable computer, drive or backup to a computer with a working operating system. Mac-to-Mac, Windows-to-Windows and compatible cross-platform transfers are possible.

Applications do not transfer between Mac and Windows. Some applications need reinstalling or separate setup.

02 / RECOVERY ASSESSMENT

I can’t get to my files.

Tell us what happened, whether the drive is detected and which files matter most. We’ll assess whether to attempt recovery in the workshop or recommend a specialist.

A failing drive needs a different approach from a routine transfer. Recovery is not guaranteed.

Ask about recovery
03 / SETUP

I need a clean installation or help setting up.

A clean operating-system installation, limited account setup and a rebuild that preserves your data are different services. Before recommending an option, we’ll check whether you need to keep any existing files.

04 / NOT SURE

My old computer won’t start.

That doesn’t automatically mean your files are lost. Tell us what happens when you turn it on and whether you have a backup. Diagnosing the computer and recovering its data may involve separate work.

Looking after your files

We’ll discuss what you want to keep before making changes to your computer. If there’s a problem accessing your files, we’ll explain the available options and any risks before proceeding.

What to tell us

Let us know which computer you’re using, what’s happening and whether you’re moving to a new device or trying to retrieve files from an existing one.

A few useful answers

Can you transfer files from a computer that won’t start?

Often, yes. Even if your computer won’t turn on, we may still be able to access its files. We’ll check what’s possible and explain your options.

Will all my applications move across?

Not necessarily. Some applications need to be reinstalled, and others may require a new licence or a compatible version. We can help you get your essential software running on your new computer.

Can you move my email too?

Yes. We can set up your existing email accounts on your new computer and help bring across older messages where they’re available.
