Screen or battery trouble?

MacBook screen or display

MacBook screen repairs normally involve replacing the complete display assembly. We generally consider repairs for models from 2016 onwards, depending on the model and damage. Sometimes the model and symptoms give us enough information to advise you. If the fault or replacement part is uncertain, we’ll recommend diagnosis before quoting the work.

Battery trouble

A battery that doesn’t last may need replacing. We’ll check the Mac’s model, condition and symptoms before recommending any work.

Find the fault before choosing parts.

A Mac that won’t start can have several possible faults, and a slow Mac doesn’t always need a new part. Sometimes the model and symptoms point to a likely cause. When they don’t, diagnosis helps us work out what needs attention and whether a repair or upgrade is worth considering.

The model matters

Not every iMac needs the same approach.

Storage or power-supply work may be possible on eligible Intel iMacs. We’ll consider the model, the screen’s condition and whether the repair is worthwhile before recommending work inside the iMac.

For 24-inch Apple silicon iMacs, we offer software troubleshooting and setup. Display replacements can be considered, but matching parts may take longer to source. We’ll confirm availability, cost and the expected wait before you decide. Memory and storage are not ordinary upgrades.

More life from a suitable Mac.

Storage upgrades

A supported SSD upgrade can give an older Mac more useful life. The options depend on its model and configuration. We’ll also discuss any files that need moving.

Cooling service

If your Mac is getting hot or has dust buildup, ask whether its cooling system can be serviced. A noisy fan or shutdown may need diagnosis first.

Find your Mac’s model and serial number

If your Mac starts, choose Apple menu  > About This Mac. You’ll find its model name and serial number there.

For more detail, hold the Option key and choose Apple menu  > System Information, then select Hardware. Look for Model Identifier and, where shown, Model Number. Include the labels when you copy these details.

If your Mac won’t start
  • MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro: look for the serial number in the small print on the underside. If a model number is also printed there, include it.
  • iMac: the serial number is underneath the stand. If it’s awkward to reach, leave it for us to check.
  • Mac mini and Mac Studio: look on the underside for the serial number.

You may also find the serial number on the original box or in your device list at account.apple.com. For another Mac desktop or an unreadable label, tell us what you know.

You can start an enquiry without these details. We may need to confirm the exact model before advising on parts or repair options.

Moving to a new Mac?

Your files

Bring the old and new computers and tell us what you need to keep. If the old Mac has failed, we’ll first check whether the files can be accessed before treating it as a routine transfer.

Repair or replace?

We'll talk through the options and costs. Repair isn't always the best answer.

We investigate the problem, explain what we find and advise you on the options. Any repair, parts or further work is quoted separately.

The repair estimate depends on the fault, the Mac and any parts needed. We'll explain the expected work and cost so you can decide whether to go ahead. Further work starts after you approve it.

A few useful answers

Which details do you need for a screen or battery estimate?

The Mac model, year and serial number help us identify the device. For display work, colour and the reported damage can also matter. You can start with what you know.

Can every Mac be upgraded?

No. Upgrade options depend on the model and design. Memory and storage are not ordinary upgrades on Apple silicon iMacs.

What if my trackpad is hard to click?

A swollen battery can affect the trackpad or make a MacBook rock on a flat surface. Tell us about the symptoms and arrange an assessment; avoid unnecessary continued use or pressing on the affected area.
